Welcome to my new blog! I'll be using this space to share the inspiration behind my work, processes involved, and the highs and lows of my journey running a small, business as an artist.
I thought I'd start with a quick introduction for those of you that don't already know me. I'm Mia, a.k.a Moonlint Worthing. I'm a British artist, mostly working with ceramincs and printmaking. I've lost track of how long I've been practising pottery for, (maybe 10 years), but I have been doing it as a business for about 4 years.
I started the business after having my son and, as a single mother, needing to do something that would fit in around looking after him. Hence the name Moonlit Worthing, as I was, (and am), looking after my son full time and then "moonlighting" as an artist, working after he'd gone to bed. This is still how I do most of my work; creating in my spare room after dark, fuelled by endless cups of green tea.
I'm passionate about what I do. There's nothing comparable to sitting with a lump of earth, and carving and manipulating it with your hands to create beautiful or interesting things. There's something special about holding a mug or bowl that has been individually crafted by an artist's hands, as opposed to something that's simply been mass produced in a factory somewhere. And this is what I hope comes across in my work.
I'm inspired by the natural beauty around Sussex where I live, along with Japanese folklaw and shinto belief. You can find my current work through the website, or, if you are local, come along to one of the many craft events I trade at.
